Stop octopus farming. Help to END.IT

Octopus could be the new victim of factory farming

Behind closed doors, a seafood company, Nueva Pescanova, is conducting experiments to exploit octopuses in factory farming. They are paving the way for the global expansion of commercial octopus farming in confinement. We need to act now to END.IT.

Sign the petition to demand action from world leaders to deliver a UN Global Agreement for a fair food and farming transition, that puts an end to the growth of unethical, unsustainable and unhealthy factory farming.

A Global Issue Needs a Global Solution

Octopus farming isn't a local issue—it will become a global problem with far-reaching consequences for our planet. From environmental degradation to animal welfare concerns, the impact of octopus farming extends beyond borders.

To address this urgent issue, we need a coordinated global effort that transcends geographical boundaries.

In intensive farms, billions of animals are cruelly confined or bred for unnaturally fast growth or high yields. 40% of global arable land is used to grow feed for animals instead of people – driving deforestation and massive loss of wildlife habitats.

Animal agriculture is also a major source of global greenhouse gas emissions and a significant cause of air, soil and water pollution. Yet, the over-reliance on animal protein continues to grow globally, helping to fuel the climate crisis.

Without urgent action, intensive animal agriculture threatens our very survival.

If governments unite, they can work towards solutions and promote sustainable food systems that safeguard our oceans and protect animals and our health.

A food transformation: there are other ways to feed the world than factory farming

The future of aquaculture depends on sustainable methods that protect the environment and benefit the public. By focusing on farming species lower in the food chain, like bivalves and algae, that have minimal impact and reduce harm to the environment, the industry can help fight climate change and ensure food security.

A brighter future is possible. One where nature-based solutions, and higher welfare agriculture supports the regeneration of the environment, fair livelihoods for farmers and nutritious food for all. And we can each play our part in making this vision a reality.

We can’t let companies like Nueva Pescanova prioritize profits while damaging protected environments, depleting natural resources and worsening global food inequalities. We must act now.

Petition text:

There is an urgent need to transform the food system. If the global community is to meet the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Climate Agreement targets and the goals of the Convention on Biological Diversity, action must be taken to end intensive animal farming.

We, the undersigned, call on world leaders to develop a Global Agreement on food and farming for adoption by the United Nations General Assembly, with the objective being to move away from industrial animal agriculture and:

  • Shift to nature-positive farming systems that help restore biodiversity and soils and keep the global increase in average temperatures below 1.5˚C.
  • Reverse over-reliance on animal protein in high consuming populations and support equitable, secure access to nutritious food.
  • Ensure a just transition to a global food system that provides fair livelihoods for farmers and protects the rights of indigenous peoples, women, and vulnerable communities.
  • Achieve a financial and regulatory environment which helps to secure the above transition.
  • Deliver high standards of farmed animal welfare.
